Date: Dec 14,2011
Time: 07:30 PM - 09:00 PM
Meridian Music: Composers in Performance presents a new electro-acoustic duo, Mad Ratio, featuring Tom Bickley, recorder and electronics and Adria Otte, violin and electronics. This debut performance will feature an hour long piece combining Gray Code and Fibonacci sequencing structures with improvisation.
Tom Bickley listens to the world always hoping to hear more and more fully. He plays and teaches recorder, and composes and performs using recorders, electronics and voice. He grew up in the semitropical soundscape of Houston, sojourned in Washington, DC (studying music, religion, and information science) and came to the Bay Area as a composer in residence at Mills College. He performs with Gusty Winds May Exist (with Nancy Beckman), Three Trapped Tigers (with recorder players David Barnett and Judy Linsenberg), co-founded and directs the Cornelius Cardew Choir, and is on the Library Faculty at CSU East Bay. He holds the Certificate in Deep Listening from Pauline Oliveros and the Deep Listening Institute.
Adria Otte is a multi-instrumentalist whose primary focus has been on violin and guitar. She studied music at Bard College and has performed in ensembles ranging from string quartets to rock bands to free improvisation groups. She frequently collaborates with dancer/musician/performance artist Dohee Lee and performs regularly with Jamaesori, a traditional Korean drumming group.
