Date: Dec 06,2008

Time: 07:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Meridian Music: Composers in Performance presents An Ode to Saint Nicholas of Myra, a special benefit concert for the non profit Meridian Gallery featuring Carla Kihlstedt, Fred Frith, Matthias Bossi, The Norman Conquest, and Blixa Bargeld.

This 2008-2009 season of Meridian Music: Composers in Performance marks the 10th Anniversary of the series, which is currently curated by Tom Bickley. Both Carla Kihlstedt and Fred Frith were among performers in the early years of the series, which has hosted over 100 composers/performers to date. Meridian Music is one of the three primary programs at Meridian, the others being the 19 year-old exhibition program and the 12 year-old arts education program for low-income youth in San Francisco. For more information, visit www.meridiangallery.org. For this evening’s performance, Kihlstedt will be joined by legendary guitarist Fred Frith (Henry Cow, Art Bears, Massacre), percussionist Matthias Bossi (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), The Norman Conquest on electronics and processing, and Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds).

“I cannot predict what will ensue on this most auspicious night of Saint Nicholas of Myra, wondermaker and giver of gifts, but we will come ready to fi ll your ears (and ours) with treats: dances, jigs and joyous merry romps for those of you who have been all sugar and spice this year...and lumps of dissonance and punishing scrapings for those who...well...you know who you are and what you’ve done!”
