Drifting Moon Peaks by zBug

Date: Jan 15,2011

Time: 08:00 PM - 10:00 PM

zBug will perform their latest industrial jazz composition Drifting Moon Peaks in five movements.

zBug [aka z_Bug] is an industrial jazz unit based in San Francisco, CA with their roots in John Coltrane, cEvin Key, Cecil Taylor, and Throbbing Gristle with ambient psychedelic elements akin to Robert Rich and Pink Floyd. Their line-up includes two drummers, Moog synthesizer, electric bass, modular synthesizer, acoustic piano, and electro-beats. Every concert is a World Premiere event and they have been associated with Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio!

In late 2004, David Leikam and Zachary Morris met while both studying music at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and in Wadada Leo Smith's Creative Music Orchestra. They have been collaborating on music of an electronic, structured improvisational, jazz style ever since, performing numerous live concerts and recording in the studio since 2005.

Since early 2006, the industrial jazz unit zBug led by David Leikam has evolved their line-up with Sheila Bosco on drumset and Craig Latta on electronics joining the duo of David on Mogue Rogue synthesizer and Zachary on drumset in early 2007 creating a brief trio then quartet along with establishing the unique double drumset foundation of zBug. In 2009, Sean Price on electronics joined making them a quintet performing at the Flux 53 Theater, 21 Grand, and other venues until early 2010 when they invited Fred Malouf into the ranks on electric guitar as a sextet briefly while being featured twice on Eddie Gale's Creative Jazz Thursday Nights at Velma's Blues and Jazz Club in San Francisco, CA (January/March) along with featuring Moe! Staiano on drumset/percussion for two concerts in early March and mid-May in the absence of Zachary briefly. Since May 2010, they have consolidated the unit back to a quartet and are going forward with David Leikam on Moog Rogue synthesizer/electric bass/acoustic piano, Zachary Morris on drumset/percussion, Sheila Bosco on drumset/percusion, and Sean Price on modular synthesizer/electro-beats to give a unique rhythmic based and live in concert industrial jazz presence that has been associated with Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio soon after their performance at The Wild Beast Pavilion during their successful tour last October in the Los Angeles, CA area.

For this performance, Sean Price is unable to perform and Fred Malouf will join on electric guitar/electronics.
