Meridian Exhibitions 1989 - Present

Since 1989 Meridian has exhibited artists of all media, ethnicities, and career stages. From its Haida Project (1990) in collaboration with the Headlands Center for the Arts, which brought down Haida sculptors from the Queen Charlotte Islands for a four month residency, to its Brazil Exchange Show (1994) which united the work of six Brazilians with six Bay Area artists in partnership with the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, Meridian continues to connect artists and institutions across the Bay Area and abroad.

In its new location at 535 Powell street Meridian has expanded its space to accommodate its vision, organizing Troubled Goods: A Ten Year Retrospective of major American painter Robert Colescott's recent work; Art of Democracy: War and Empire a survey of work made in response to the Bush years, leading up the 2008 election; and Form + an exhibition curated by Lawrence Rinder which combined Bay Area artists who draw with tantric drawings from Rajasthan and new works by French poet Franck Andre Jamme.

Meridian provides three floors of space for interdisciplinary and multicultural work, and is interested in serving both as a gallery space for refined exhibitions and a laboratory for artists' projects and performances.
