In Extremis: Artists' Panel

Date: Jul 21,2011

Time: 07:00 PM - 08:30 PM

Join In Extremis Artists: Robert Brokl, David Avery, Imin Yeh, Juan Fuentes, and Herlinde Spahr in a no-holds barred, down and dirty discussion about making prints in 2011.  Loosely themed on the title of the exhibition, “ In Extremis”, the artists in this panel will discuss the pressures and choices of making work that does not conform to the confines of a neatly framed and matted print.  Although these Artist’s are exhibiting work that is sculptural, interactive, large-scale or even full on installations, their work is unequivocally rooted in the world of Printmaking; whether inspired by the history, the social movements, the community, the collectability, the physical experience and process, or the unique aesthetic qualities of Printmaking.  Facilitated by fellow In Extremis artist, Anthony Ryan, with curator Art Hazelwood chiming in from the audience, this lively panel will change the way you think about printmaking today.

In Extremis: Prints Monumental, Intimate, and Encompassing

From the tiny to the monumental, from installations to political posters, printmaking has many ongoing traditions. Some of these traditions are complimentary, some at odds with each other. The exhibition, In Extremis: Prints Monumental, Intimate, and Encompassing, explores contrasting approaches to contemporary printmaking in Northern California through the work of more than thirty artists and artist groups.
